Teaching my children what was taught to me as a child.

Liza, 42, a pedicurist, says she has to work "para makatulong sa kinikita ng asawa ko (to supplement my husband's earnings)." This is to support three daughters - "isa kasi sa kanila college na (because one of them is already in college)."

Life is hard, she says, particularly "tumatanda na tayo (as we get older)", and "iba na ang panahon ngayon (times have changed)."

And so, "lagi ko tinuturo sa mga anak ko ang turo sa akin noon. Laging magpasalamat - kung ano ang nasa mesa, kainin. Gutom aabutin ng maarte (I always teach my children what was taught to me as a child. Be always thankful - eat what is being served. The choosy will starve)."
