I Love Banana

"Kung puwede lang ibaligya ug tag-50 ang usa ka saging, dugay na kong dato (If I can sell a banana for P50 apiece, I'd be a rich man by now)," said the vendor in his vernacular.

He has been selling banana since the 1990s, when he moved with his wife to Manila from southern Mindanao to try their luck here.

"Karon diay, gamay lang ang halin (Why, now, you don't earn a lot)?" he was asked.

"Igo lang ikabuhi (Just enough to survive)."

"Pero nakatabang gihapon ang saging (But selling banana has helped)?"

"Hinuon (That's true)," he said. "Kinsa mag-huna-huna nga ka-survive ta sa saging (Who'd have thought people can survive from selling bananas)."
