Remembering Paul Walker in the Fast Lane

When I logged in to my facebook account last Sunday (12/1/2013), I was surprised that one of the great actors of this generation who was outspoken in helping the victims of typhoon Haiyan was killed in a car accident in Santa Clarita, Los Angeles, California.  At first I did not believe the news because of thousand cases of Celebrity Death Hoax were surfaced in the web which includes Jackie Chan, Mr. Bean’s Rowan Atkinson, WWE Superstar John Cena and Chloe Grace Moretz, repotedly they were alive and kicking.  But when I turned on the TV and switched to CNN, the most reliable news network, there was no news on the actor’s demise until I saw on a rolling newsflash “Fast and Furious actor Paul Walker killed in car accident.”  I was literally shocked to that news and I just viewed the video of Paul Walker along with Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez and the cast and crew of Fast and Furious 7 delivering support and words of encouragement to the Philippines and the victims of Typhoon Haiyan through his Reach out World Wide and that was a week ago.

A Furious Accident

According to the news, the actor Paul Walker (40) and his friend former racer Roger Rodas (38) planned and organized a charity event which is a holiday toy drive known as Charity Toy Drive and Automotive Social Gathering for the survivors and victims of Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines, which was also attended by some celebrities and professionals.  After the event the actor was in the passenger seat of a 2005 Porsche Carrera GT which was powered by a V-10, 610-hp engine and driven by Roger Rodas.  According to witnesses the driver somehow lost control of the vehicle and then slammed into either a post or tree then burst into flames and exploded.  However authorities declared that the cause of the accident is speed which played a major factor in the accident.  Most of the crowds who attended the charity event were shocked and other quickly ran and grabbed fire extinguishers but the crashed vehicle was engulfed in flames and there was nothing they could do.  Crowd of grieving fans, curious onlookers and members of the media surrounded the crash site for hours, watching as firefighters worked to extract the bodies from the wreckage.

Most of his friends and co-stars of Fast and Furious including Vin Diesel were saddened by the loss of their colleague and the next day Tyrese Gibson one of his co-stars went immediately to the fatal crash site, broke down in tears and placed a yellow flower on the site where the great actor died.

High Octane Career

Paul William Walker IV was born on September 12, 1973 in Glendale, California, the son of Cheryl a fashion model and Paul William Walker III a sewer contractor.  He was raised in San Fernando Valley, California and finish high school in Village Christian School, attended several community colleges majoring in Marine Biology.  Walker began his mall career in the media when he starred in a television commercial for Pampers.  He began modeling at the age of two and began working on TV shows in the 80’s like Who’s the Boss?  His film career began in 1986 and cast in the horror/comedy film Monster in the Closet.  Walker made his feature film debut in the comedy Meet the Deedles and led to a supporting role Pleasantville, Varsity Blues and the Skulls.  His breakthrough performance when he starred opposite actor Vin Diesel in the successful film The Fast and the Furious.  This establishes Walker as a certified film star and leading man, and led to the successful movie franchise of Fast and Furious.  Walker also starred in Disney’s Eight Below which garnered critical acclaimed and opened in first place at the box office, grossing over US$20 million during its first weekend.  He reprised his role as Brian O Conner in the Fast and Furious franchise.  However at the time of his death, Walker had been filming Fast and Furious 7 and was forced the shooting of the film to be delayed while producers try to rework the film, but according to sources that they will continue with the shooting in honoring Paul Walker.

Driver With a Cause

Paul Walker and his friends organized a humanitarian aid team known as Reach out World Wide.  Walker was active in humanitarian aids when he went to Constitucion, Chile and offer his help and support to the people who were injured in the 8.8 magnitude earthquake last March 2010.  Also the same year he lend a helping hand in the 2010 Haiti Earthquake victims, and recently he organized a charity event for the survivors and victims of Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines before his untimely death.

Philippines Love Paul Walker

With the news of the loss of a great actor and humanitarian, thousands of fans especially from the Philippines expressed their sympathies for the loss and are very grateful for his humanitarian cause.  I read most of the messages and even Philippine National Red Cross Chairman Richard Gordon expressed his sympathies to the family and friends of the blonde and handsome actor.  Paul Walker was compassionate in helping the victims of Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines and tweeted about the relief operations done by his organization.

Then the late actor also thanked his Fast and Furious crew and cast members for rallying with him in support of his relief efforts for Typhoon Haiyan,

Big thanks to the @FastFurious team for joining @ReachOutWW’s effort to help the victims of Typhoon #Haiyan: #FF7

While scrolling down my posts in Facebook, most of the netizens in the Philippines made tributes and personal acknowledgment to the actor’s passing.  Millions have tweeted others were at loss for words, while some made short films and mini-documentaries about the career of Paul Walker.

The world had lost one of the most lovable and admirable actor in this generation while heaven have finally gained another angel to watch over us driving with Nissan Skyline cruising along the Highways of Heaven.

“If one day the speed kills me, do not cry because I was smiling.”
